Our Horses

Valentine “Val” is a 20-year-old brown warmblood gelding. Val is a recent addition to the Mending Fences herd.  This is his second career, he spent many years of his life in the jumper ring. He is a gentle, tolerant fella that thoroughly enjoys being groomed.

Gator is a 19-year-old bay quarter horse gelding. Gator spent a big part of his life as a family horse living in Kissimmee before he migrated north to Mending Fences. He is a dependable member of the herd that always enjoys being groomed.

Merlin is a 2001 black Missouri Foxtrotter gelding.  Merlin was donated to the program by a lady living in Colorado that had owned him for 10 years.  He had been her trail riding companion until she discovered, during an annual physical, that he had a heart murmur.  She decided that a less strenuous life would be more appropriate for Merlin.  Merlin is very engaging and always needs to know what is happening in his barn.

Bullhead is an 8-year-old Thoroughbred gelding.  He sustained an injury, now healed, during race training when was younger.  He has been a member of the Mending Fence’s herd of therapy horses since the treatment center opened in the spring of 2016.  He is inquisitive and engaging and is always eager to meet new people.

Cookie is a 2003 sorrel mare registered with American Quarter Horse Association.  She is a fun, forward-thinking horse that participates willingly in all the unmounted activities.

Tide is a twenty-ish black Tennessee Walking Horse gelding. Tide can be a bit skeptical at times, but he is always open to a belly scratch or a scoop of grain.

Michael Rules “Mikey” is an 11-year-old bay Thoroughbred gelding. Mikey raced during his earlier years. He does have a couple of health issues that prevent him from being worked under saddle comfortably, but he works in our program beautifully. He is a sensitive horse that is very clear about his likes and dislikes.

Turbo is a 5-year-old chestnut gelding.  He was donated to our program by Stirrup and Strides once it was determined that he was not an appropriate horse for their mounted activities due to an injury he sustained when he was a yearling.  Turbo has a steady, quiet disposition that complements our program.

Larry is a 16-year-old brown thoroughbred gelding. Larry has worn many hats. He started out as a racehorse, then was trained to jump, and finally he doubles, at times, as a therapy horse and a lesson horse for a young girl. He takes all this in stride and greets the clients with an inquisitive look.
